Following a previous question on whether this project is still in development - are you targeting version 5 of Umbraco?

Do you have a rough estimation on when we should be able to use the new version?

I Have installed the blog4umbraco and have just played with the css to display it as a page within my site and everything works fine except when i post a comment it displays the message;
Your comment is being submitted, please wait
and then stays on that and doesnt do anything else i have notice that the form is not checking any of the details i.e. whether its a valid email or website i have submitted it with no details watsoever and it stil done the same any suggestion on whtas going wrong( unfortunately the site is on dev site and not live so cant give the url but can supply any files if needed)

Hi,

Yes there is some development towards a version 3.0 release going on which is essentially a re-write. However, in the meantime you can install the Blog 4 Umbraco package that is available through the Packages list in the developer section, then I recommend installing the Refactored Blog4Umbraco Extensions package available here: http://our.umbraco.org/projects/collaboration/refactored-blog4umbraco-extensions

I'm looking for a blog package that can be added onto recent versions of Umbraco and will keep step with future developments.

Some of the date stamps suggest there has not been active development on this project for over a year - is that the case?

Is there a better alternative to blog4umbraco that you would recommend?

I tried to build Blog for Umbraco from source and it was impossible because of the cms assembly.

It turns out that umbraco.cms has a GAC dependency on the old ASP.NET Ajax 1.0 library which was obviously not installed on my machine.

New Post: Error when publishing Blog

We're using 4.5.2 with BlogForUmbraco installed - it has been working fine until a few weeks ago. Now, when we Save and Publish a new blog post, we get the error below, the post remains draft in the content tree, and it is not assigned to date folders.

Plus, worse, it seems to unpublish ALL pages on the site - so the front end shows the "Looks like there's still work to do" standard Umbraco page.

By revisiting the draft blog post on the content tree, it is possible to Save and Publish it again, and this brings everything back to life, and publishes the post and assigns it to datefolders. But for our clients who are posting entries in their blogs, it's a nasty error to see and takes down the whole site each time.

Any ideas on what's gone wrong and how to fix it?

Hello there!

I'm trying to build Umbraco CMS 4.7 (change set 6f33e2b81175) from source code but When I'm trying to run the application from Visual Studio 2010 the app ask me my credentials but I couldn't install it yet :( In fact I have no database created and I don't know what is the username and password...

Any thoughts?

Great code - thanks for that. However, this isn't hugely type-safe and the fastest way to get the information you want, using XSLT, is:

<xsl:for-each select="$currentPage/node [@nodeTypeAlias='BlogPost' and position() <= $myCount]">
...
</xsl:for-each>

XSLT is faster than raw DB access - because it's performed directly against the file-based XML cache on disk. File-based access < DB-based access, always.

Hi robert,

All source builds should be classed as unstable. I'm refactoring the source tree to have a "branches/releases/trunk" structure.
"branches" will be for prototyping, "trunk" for active development. When the trunk reaches a stable point, it'll be branched one-time into "releases" as a point of reference.

Hi jrmotter,

I've started using Blog 4 Umbraco within the last month, and while there are a few teething problems with implementation, I've managed to work around most of them.

The issue you talk about , ntext vs int, is due to the Author Picker Datatype having the wrong databaset datatype.

You can change the database datatype by editing the Author Picker in the Developers section to make the change. Unless you also have uComponents installed, in which case it's not so clear.

I have installed and have been unable to use the current version of this package under 4.5.2 Umbraco. There was a problem with the installation that required changing a couple of paths in the config files. Then there was a problem with the xslt files that required updating them to reflect the changes in XPATH. I've gotten past these two but then hit a wall when the server complained about a type mismatch - ntext vs. int. This problem has been encountered by others and I have found posts regarding it in the forums. However, the most recent post was in March - about half a year ago. There was no response since that time. It appears that this project is no longer being supported given that no fixes to critical bugs have been issued for at least half a year. Anyone know anything about this?

Needed a way to get the last N blog posts and xslt wasn't cutting it due to the large number of posts it had to wade through. It was tanking the CPU on my dual proc server for 20+ seconds. So, I added this function to my copy of BlogLibrary.cs. Now it's instantaneous.If you can verify the SQL is cool, I'd appreciate it.
