Hi Tim,

Great package. I've got a suggestion: Allow some configuration of date folders. When not posting that many posts .. it's enough to have 2 levels (year, month). Otherwise it's a lot of clicking :-)

I was a bit surprised that the package actually offers creating multiple blogs. Cool. But it seems that the tags are shared across blogs.

To reproduce:

Create 2 or more blogs.
Create to blog posts and add different tags.
Both blogs share the same tags in tag cloud.

Add a flag to comments (or treat as a separate table) indicating something is a trackback

Support the trackback posting type. Support auto-discovery via RDF.

The RDF bit is easy enough to include in the blog post xslt, but need to have a service to post to as well as a way to store the data.

Also, trackbacks should always require moderation (IMHO)

Come to the conclusion that uBlogsy is a far better option installed cleanly uses Razor syntax instead of the horror show that is xslt with no errors.

If you open up your config folder find xsltExtensions.config and remove \bin from the file path,

this will work but not for all errors as I have:

Error parsing XSLT file: \xslt\BlogRssFeedLink.xslt

Error parsing XSLT file: \xslt\Blogpages.xslt

Error parsing XSLT file: \xslt\BlogCategories.xslt

Error parsing XSLT file: \xslt\BlogLatestComments.xslt

Any advice on the remaining errors?

Created Issue: Issue with filtering on tags and Windows Live Writer [7979]

I have an issue with Windows Live Writer (WLW) and tags. When publishing posts from WLW the post cannot be filtered using any of the attached tags.

Versions:
I'm using Umbraco 4.7.2, with SQLServerCE 4. I've tried both blog4umbraco 2.0.26 and the Blog Startkit (which I assume is a version óf blog4umbraco?).

Symptoms:
When a post has been published from WLW it all seems fine. The post is there and the tags are displayed. However, the post is not displayed when filtering on any used tag.

What I've got so far:
I'm very new to Umbraco so I don't really know how everything is connected. But in the database table cmsContentXML every(?) blog post is stored as XML, and the XML has an <tags>-element. When posting with WLW the <tags> only containts an empty CDATA. It seems like the BlogListPosts.xslt uses this tag to do the filtering.

If I just republish the WLW-posts (hitting the publish button), the <tags>-element is populated and the filtering works.

The XSLT-script also use "tagsLib:getTagsFromNode()" to get tags for each post, maybe this can be used when filtering?

Hey there,

got the blog running and got one problem.

My Rss-Feed /rss.aspx fails and is not valid, cause somehow it doesn't begin at the top of the document.

There is 1 empty line and 3 empty chars at the top, so the "XML" gets invalid.

line 2, column 2: XML parsing error: <unknown>:2:2: XML or text declaration not at start of entity

Didn't change any of the XSLTs. Any idea?

Fixed it on my side. There was a new line in the RSS-Template, had nothing to do with the XSLT.

(I'm sorry if what I am using is not blog4umbraco and i opened up an issue here, you are free to delete it and thanks for quick answer)

I'm using the version inside the Blog Starter Kit (i guess it is blog4umbraco?? Kick my a** if I am wrong).

If you delete a post and send it to the recycle bin its tags are still counted in the tag count under categories. Deleting the tags from the post before deleting the post is a work around.

we can't just delete the tags from the post before deleting the post - if we need to un-delete it then we would also need to put the tags back. the problem lies with the Tags Library (umbraco.editorControls.tags.library) method getAllTagsInGroup() - we need a version that ignores deleted content.

Created Issue: Property alias "PostDate" doesn't follow Umbraco Safe Aliases conventions [7341]

If you have the parameter ForceSafeAliases set to true in umbracoSettings.config (which is the default configuration) the property alias "PostDate" is not allowed. It seems like the uppercase "P" in the beginning is not considered a safa alias name. Still if you look in the source code for blog for umbraco 4 -> BlogDateFolder.cs you see that it's looking for a property named "PostDate".

When you install the blog package in Umbraco (4.7.1) I don't think there are any problems since the validation is not executed when installing a package. So the property is named "PostDate" and it works. But I (unknowingly) changed the property name to "postDate" and discovered that the datefolder functionality stopped working when I changed the name. So I looked at the class and saw that it depended on an unchanged property alias. I then tried to change it back to "PostDate" only to discover I couldn't because Umbracos SafeAliases validation kicked in and stopped me.

There is a way around this, but you have to set <ForceSafeAliases>false</ForceSafeAliases> in umbracoSettings.config and then set <clientDependency version="2"> in ClientDepencency.config (in order to flush the javascript validation cache).

You should consider renaming this property so it follows the Safe Aliases conventions.

Closed Issue: Posts appearing twice [874]

I've noticed that if I add a post it'll appear twice within the tree i.e.:

------04

Both 04 posts are the same (same id) so I'm not sure where the join is having issues.

Hi guys, we believe this is an issue with Umbraco itself rather than Blog4Umbraco as B4U does not directly edit the content tree tables, only uses the native Umbraco APIs. I'm closing this issue as it's not something under our control.

I noticed this when viewing rss for comments when there's more than 1 comment per day.

This doesn't work:
<xsl:sort select="@createDate" data-type="text" order="descending" />

This trick works better for me:

Have installed the blog4umbraco and have just played with the css to display it as a page within my site and everything works fine except when i post a comment it displays the message;
Your comment is being submitted, please wait
and then stays on that and doesnt do anything else i have notice that the form is not checking any of the details i.e. whether its a valid email or website i have submitted it with no details watsoever and it stil done the same any suggestion on hwtas going wrong( unfortunately the site is on dev site and not live so cant give the url)
